SER KOKAYI ANNOUNCES DEBUT SINGLE “TAKE V” – A COLORFUL CLUB ANTHEM
Ser Kokayi, the New York based musician, student & record label executive, announces his new single “TAKE V”, slated for release on November 12th. The lively hip hop track has a certain attitude and energy to it that calls to mind the likes of BIA or Aminé.
The release is Ser’s debut single and follows his debut album, “Who Do You Run To?”, which was released in February of this year. “TAKE V” is a song laced with infectious melodies and quotable moments that have the propensity to move crowds. Ser’s sarcastic, yet charismatic lyrics ride along the expressive bassline and fall perfectly between the Caribbean-inspired percussion of the track to create an unforgettable vibe. The song was best described by David 'Swag R'Celious' Harris – Grammy Award-winning producer, songwriter, executive – who is one of Ser’s professors and mentors at New York University. While helping Ser finish developing the track, Swag said, “this song isn’t just a song – it’s a feeling.” In the start of the second verse, Ser takes this idea of feeling to an extreme, employing a scat-like cadence to deliver incomprehensible lyrics that transcend language.
Despite this section of unintelligible phrases, the rest of the song sends a clever and cohesive message – you’re replaceable. In the chorus Ser raps, “TAKE V if you need it, I know a lil’ vibe in the five if she needed”. This one line sums up the theme of the song as a whole – Ser is daring his significant other to take a break from the relationship and brags that he knows “a lil’ vibe” in Zone Five of Atlanta who is ready and willing to replace her. One of the reasons that Ser enjoyed writing this song so much was because of the subject matter.
Loyalty is everything to Ser – in fact, one of his main goals for his career is to build an empire in the entertainment industry with his family and closest friends. This song, however, gave him the opportunity to put his nonchalant personality in the context of infidelity and disloyalty to make this earworm of a song. Knowing the viral potential of this track, Ser spent almost eight months perfecting “TAKE V” and he now plans to put all of his focus on promoting it. From TikTok to radio to sync placements to paid ads to live shows and more, Ser plans to broadcast “TAKE V” across every medium possible until the song reaches its full potential and takes the world by storm.

ARTIST BIO
“I want to be one of the greatest and most influential artists of all-time. I believe that I will bend genres, break records, and inspire millions. But I want to be so much more than an entertainer – I want to be an inspiration.”
- Ser Kokayi
Ser is a hip hop artist, student & record label executive who is currently based out of New York City. Ser was raised in Atlanta, Georgia and has been heavily influenced by many of the city’s most notable artists – from Andre 3000 to JID to Young Thug. Despite his connection to the sound of Atlanta, in 2019, Ser found himself moving to New York to pursue music and attend The Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at New York University.
In his first year at NYU, the young entrepreneur found himself inundated with the amount of corruption and the lack of equity in the music industry, which led him to found his record label – OnEarth Records https://www.onearthrecords.com. OnEarth is an independent record label that is completely artist-run and aims to bridge the gap between artists and executives in the music industry. The company’s mission is to create equity in the music industry by putting minorities, women & other underrepresented groups in positions of power. The label has signed acts like dark-pop artist TAYR and r&b singer ZAYAH and is run by a collective of artist-executives.
Now in his sophomore year at NYU, the 19 year old hip hop artist is focused on growing his record label, promoting his new single “TAKE V” & preparing to go on tour in the coming year.
